Henk van Twillert completed his musical education at the Sweelinck Academy of Music in Amsterdam under supervsion of Ed Boogaard
He is one of the leading baritonsaxophone players in Europe and inspired several composers to write music for his instrument: Chiel Meyering, Gijs van Dijk, Joao Pedro Oliveira, Carlos Marques en Anke Brouwer, all with contemporary music.
Henk vanTwillert was one of the initiators of the famous Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet, founded in 1979. With this quartet he made successful tours with Daniel Wayenberg, Hans Dulfer, Jaap van Zweden and others.On the CD “ Saudades” we can hear Henk vanTwillert playing his beloved Fado together with the famous Portugese fadosinger Carlos do Carmo.This year the production started of a Cd with Tjako van Schie , his regular companion on piano with works of Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Faure but also with “world music” like fado, tango and some jewels from the jazz repertoire of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. In his musical repertoire, which goes from Bach to Jazz, Henk van Twillert is a many sided musician with a versatile mind. At this moment he works and lives in New York City, working on his Masters and at the same time giving masterclasses and concerts with Gary Smulyan on baritonsaxophone, playing Bach.
