The Classical Music Board Bonaire is proud to announce that pianist Trudy Silver will perform at the Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire on Friday 16 November next.
Pianist Trudy Silver plays classical pieces as well as jazz classics. She is renowned in the New York alternative music scene and regularly participates in festivals such as the Dissidents Arts Festival and “Music Now at the Brooklyn Commons”.
American based pianist Trudy Silver will perform on the Piano Grandi, the only piano Grandi on Bonaire. On Trudy´s special request to play the Piano Grandi, she has proposed to host an informal concert. Guests will be seated around the Piano Grandi and can enjoy this performance free of charge.
For this special concert on Bonaire, Trudy will give tribute to her still brilliant and independent mother who just turned 100 years young., by playing ‘Take the A Train’ and ‘Lush Life’ by Billy Strayhorn, ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard, ‘Caravan’ by Duke Ellington, ‘Laverne’ by Andrew Hill, ‘Passepied’ from the Fifth English Suite by Bach, ‘Lady Jane’, ‘La Vida’ and ‘Tru Bugaloo’. Trudy will intersperse between the music with anecdotes from her 30 year Harlem teaching career and her 30 year non-violent civil arrest history with the War Resisters League which is America’s oldest peace organization. Given Trudy’s interesting background and ample experience, we look forward to a very special 60 minute concert.
The concert will take place in the Cacique room of the Plaza Beach Resort Bonaire in Kralendijk (Playa Pariba) and starts at 20.00 hrs. The concert is free of charge.
In addition to the concert on Friday evening, Trudy Silver will perform for Bonairian school students. She will play a selection of her classical repertoire and more modern pieces to allow the young audience to experience a varied programme. Combined with Trudy´s backgrounds as piano teacher, we expect the music to become accessible and visual, and the concert will be fun and entertaining as well as educational.
