Ilja Huang

Ilja is born on Curaçao. She starts playing the piano at the age of 7. She graduated as a soloist at the conservatory in Enschede. She played until 2005 in Holland and Germany in a piano duo. Back in Curacao she had a warm wellcome by the local musicians. She organized concerts for chamber music and concerts for children, and music theatre  a.o. Peter and the Wolf, Le Carnaval des Animaux  en de Nutcracker. In april she organized with tenor Thijs Haalstra for the first time on Curacao a  ‘Opera-per-Tutti’ with  three concerts. 

Thijs Haalstra

Thijs graduated at the Schumann Akademie in Zwolle in classical solo singing. He performed a.o.with de Nederlandse Bach Akademie and het Nederlands Concertkoor. In 2014 he performed in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In 2017 Thijs represented the Netherlands in the  internationale muziekfestival FEMUSC in Brazil. Thijs plays as violinist in the Projectorchestra Curacao.

Judy Sprock

Judy originates from a musical Curaçao family. At a very young age she started recorder lessons with a non. Later on she played the guitar during her art education in the Netherlands. In Curacao she started playing the flute, and she followed lessons from professionals  in the Netherlands.  In 1986 she returned permanently to Curaçao. There she started playing hobo. She performed in the Bach Accompaniment Orchestra. Judy also begun playing the kwarta, and performed original Curacao music. But her main instrument today is the flute.

Hein van Maarschalkerwaart
Hein van Maarschalkerwaart  (artist name: Art Marshall) plays on a professional basis the clarinet and he is arranger. Hein studied English and worked from 1965 on St. Maarten.There he met Benny Goodman, who had a summer house over there. In Amsterdam he studied professional clarinet and basclarinet.  He played in many orhestras a.o.the Metropole Orchestra, and in manyensembles for chamber music. He wrote an improvisation method for clarinet and saxophone “Art Marshall: Take up Jazz”, published also in England FGermany and France. The book was dedicated to Benny Goodman. His musical arrangements got internationally well known, as is to see at YouTube.

Enid Lucasius

Enid Lucasius played from childhood on the recorder. At the age of 15 she starts playing the fagot. In spite of her talented play, she choose for studying engeneering at the Technical University of Delft. But she continued playing the fagot and followed  masterclasses and

Caroline de Jong has been teaching the saxofoon since arriving on Bonaire in 2014. She missed playing in a group from her time in the Netherlands and because there was no suitable musical group for her to join she started offering saxophone lessons. A kind sponsor purchased the first saxophones which could be rented to students. The first ever two students then aged 11 and 12 are still playing and are now part of the group of saxophonists called “Saxomania”. Many students of various ages followed and due to their enthousiasm they started to play together.

It all started very small and it was never thought that it would expand to what it is today.

Saxomania has been a Foundation with a committee  since september 2017 offering lessons and performing. There are now 19 students as well as 8 players in the group one of which plays the baritone! Saxomania is very proud of it’s achievements all which would not have been possible without the chairman’s enthusiasm and drive along with the support and help from others. Harbour Village sponsor the group by allowing them to rehearse in one of their rooms ensuring a comfortable environment in which to weekly rehearse and teach as well as providing room for expansion. Drummer Gabi Mercera enthusiastically joins the group on performance nights and the Dutch Government gave a grant in order to purchase 12 saxophones. 

The saxophone is an expensive instrument and a limited fund is available to allow people to rent a saxophone and have lessons. 

The group is looking forward to the upcoming visit of Henk van Twillert and his Vento do Norto. Saxomania will  receive private tuition, master classes as well as being able to play and perform with the professionals. What a great opportunity and a wonderful CMBB initiative for which we are very grateful as the one and only saxophone group on Bonaire.

More than 45 years ago King Scherptong I Egilio Goeloe came up with the idea to start a steelband. Since then they started with 5 members and over the years they have changed members multiple times and today they have 12 members forming the steelband Silver Bullet.

The band has traveled to play internationally at different lands and countries like , Chile , Trinidad , Mexico , Aruba , Curacao and a lot more

How I started : I was in a different steel band than I went to study at Curacao and when I came back I was approached by Mr. Scherptong and was ask to join Silver Bullet , so I trained with them for 1 year and than I just started playing.

How I started : I was approached by Jeffrey , Marc and Julius , they convinced me to come play in the steel band and it’s very fun , I’m very proud to be playing with Silver Bullet.

Chaira Borderslee started singing on when she was five. She sang in the Antillean children’s choir Zjozjoli, in which they made albums and children’s films. She studied at the Nel Roos Ballet Academy and then followed the premiere and higher professional education training Showmusical at the Amsterdam Dance Academy Lucia Marthas. She grew up in Heiloo .

During her pre-tertiary education, Borderslee was seen as a singer and dancer in many well-known television programmes such as The Voice of Holland and The Next Pop Talent, by Joop van den Ende and John de Mol, in which she performed with celebrities like Barry White. In addition to her high school education, Borderslee also performed vocal studio work on the R&B duo Unknown. Later she was asked to sing at the Dutch-language R&B project Vogelvrij. With this ensemble they recorded an album, two singles and two video clips.

In her graduation year, she made the transition to musical and played in, among others, West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Fame, Aida, Hair and Tarzan. In Aida and Hair she performed key roles.

Chaira Borderslee begon te zingen op toen ze vijf was.  Zij zong in het Antilliaanse kinderkoor Zjozjoli, waar ze kinderfilms en platen hebben gemaakt. Ze studeerde aan de Nel Roos Ballet Academie. Tijdens haar opleiding, werd Borderslee gezien als zanger en danser in vele bekende televisieprogramma’s zoals de Voice van Holland en de volgende Pop Talent,  door Joop van den Ende en John de Mol,  waarin ze optrad met beroemdheden als Berry White. Naast haar middelbare schoolopleiding zong Borderslee ook vocale studiowerk op de R & B duo Unknown. Later werd ze gevraagd om te zingen op het Nederlandstalige R & B-project Vogelvrij. Met dit ensemble namen ze een album, twee singles en twee videoclips.

In haar eindexamenjaar, ze maakte de overgang naar de musical en speelde in ondermeer, West Side Story,  Miss Saigon,  Fame, Aida,  Haar en Tarzan.  In Aida en hair speelde ze een belangrijke rol.

Tutti Frutti stands for a musical group from Bonaire and consists of 18 singers/musicians.
All members belong to several excisting local musical groups, reason why the group is called “Tutti Frutti”.

Tutti Frutti has a variety of songs from religious to popular songs. This musical group was formed by ideas originating from six Bonairian Ladies, all relatives of each other. This group did perform in churches, famous local hotels and restaurants and last but not least on “Freewinds”.

In early 1994 Tutti Frutti initiated their performance with local cultural songs. They are a local group from Rincon, located on the Northern side of Bonaire. Rinconese people try to maintain their culture alive on a very special way. It should be mentioned that the “Rincon Day” is being organized on the 30th of April for almost 20 years already. Two weeks before Rincon Day a cultural songfestival is being organized and with participation of among other groups, the Tutti Frutti.
Their participation dates since 1994 while they conquered the winner, 1st and 2nd finalist prize on several occasions.And again in 2008 & 2010 the overall winner.

The first CD was issued in 1997 with five compositions of the well known local singer Augustin Kroon. He himself together with Flora, Echi and Tiri were the singers on this CD.
In 2002 Tutti Frutti issued their 2nd CD “Kas di bara”, and became therefore very popular with the song “Rekuerdo chistoso”. That’s why they received the “Edgar Supriano Award” on 22nd of November in Curacao. Other Cd ‘s entitled “Pabien ban brinda”, “Laganos kultura bria” , “Kòrtadó di sentebibu”, “E kueru”, “Di Tutti pa Tavio” and the latest edition “Pasku krioyo”. Soon one may expect more Cd’s of the 50 original songs from the famous composers Veronica Mercera and Tavio Sint Jago. Enjoy the newest videoclip Banboneirubek published on youtube. 

Tutti Frutti offers a variety of tipical local rithms, such as “tumba krioyo”, simadan, barí, waltz and also danzas.All songs contain the exhibition of typical habits and other cultural related topics of the island, and as a matter of fact with emphasis on Rincon.

​Dutch saxophonist Henk van Twillert (1959) studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam with Ed Bogaard where he completed his studies for the Superior Soloist diploma, passed “with distinctions”. In 1979 together with Bart Kok he was the co-founder of the renowned Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet. The quartet played successful tours with numerous renowned musicians, including Jaap van Zweden, Daniël Wayenberg and Han Bennink. Remarkable events were the opening of the Ajax soccer stadium Arena in Amsterdam in 1996 and the final concert of the EXPO ’98 Lisbon, Portugal.

Since 1993 Henk van Twillert recorded numerous CD’s and performed as a soloist with the Amsterdam Soloist Quintet. This co-operation resulted in the highly successfully productions “Tango, a homage to Astor Piazzolla” together with violinist Sonja van Beek, and “Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos”. 2001 became a landmark in the career of Henk van Twillert when recorded for the first time the famous Solo Cello Suites of Johann Sebastian Bach on the baritone saxophone. In 2002 Van Twillert recorded a CD with Portuguese fado music, “Saudades” together with the Grammy awarded Portuguese singer Carlos do Carmo. From 2006 on he was invited to the Newport Music Festival in USA. Together with the Latvian soprano Inessa Galante he recorded the CD “Confesso”.
The duo, Henk van Twillert and pianist Tjako van Schie, formed in 1986, has been performing in many places in Holland, Portugal and in the Dutch Antilles. In 2011 presented their triple CD “A Bag of Music”.

Between 2009 and 2011 Henk van Twillert was residing in New York where he worked on his Ph.D. At the same time Henk started songwriting and completed his first album “New York” as singer / bandleader: Mr. Henk & Band.
In March 2012 Henk van Twillert made his debut with Carlos do Carmo at the prestigious theatre “Carre” in Amsterdam.

In the season 2012/2013 Henk van Twillert started the concert serie “Meet the artists” in Amsterdam and Rotterdam where he invited musical colleagues to join him on stage. Due the success of the concert serie, this serie of concerts went on in the season 2013/2014 and 2014/ 2015.

After 25 years tutor teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory Henk van Twillert become a tutor teacher of Saxophone at ESMAE – the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, Portugal, where he formed several saxophone ensembles amongst others Portuguese Saxophone Orchestra and Vento do Norte.

Henk van Twillert also worked regularly with the saxophone class of El Sistema – National Network of Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Venezuela. Van Twillert always combines love for music and teaching by giving workshops, master classes and concerts around the world. In his pocket he carries his special music program for children “Stars of the Future”.
On June 2013 Henk van Twillert got his doctor degree with the public defense of his thesis in “Bach’s Cello Suites Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone”.

Saxofonist Henk van Twillert (1959) studeerde aan het Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam bij Ed Bogaard waar hij zijn studie voor het solistendiploma met onderscheiding afsloot.
Richtte in 1979 het befaamde The Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet op wat succesvolle tours deed met o.a. Jaap van Zweden en Daniël Wayenberg. Opmerkelijke gebeurtenissen waren het slotconcert van de EXPO ’98 in Lissabon en de opening van het AJAX stadion Arena in Amsterdam.

Sinds 1993 nam Henk van Twillert verschillende CD’s op als solist met het  Amsterdam Soloist Quintet “Tango, a homage to Astor Piazzolla” en “Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos”. Vanaf 2001 begon Henk van Twillert met het spelen en opnemen van de beroemde “Cello Suites” van Johann Sebastian Bach. In 2002 maakte Van Twillert een CD met Portugese fadomuziek: “Saudades”, in combinatie met de God Father van de Portugese Fado Carlos do Carmo, met wie hij onlangs op het mooie podium stond van het Amsterdams Carre.

Tussen 2009 en 2011 verbleef Henk van Twillert in New York om aan zijn proefschrift te werken “Bach’s Cello Suites Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone”. Tegelijk begon hij als songwriter en bandleader als Mr. Henk & Band te werken aan zijn album “New York”, gelanceerd in 2015.
Henk van Twillert promoveerde in Juli 2013 met de Cello Suites van Johann Sebastian Bach voor zijn Doctorale Graad, in 2015 werd zijn boek J.S. Bach Six Suites for Vioncello Solo, Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone uitgegeven bij Nota de Rodapé Ediçōes,Parijs.

​Henk van Twillert is docent saxofoon aan de Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto, Portugal, waar hij de internationaal saxofoongroep Vento do Norte formeerde wat vele tournees heeft gemaakt door Europe, de Caribbean, Zuid en onlangs door Noord-Amerika.
Na 25 jaar als vast docent saxofoon aan het Amsterdamse Conservatorium te hebben gewerkt is hij daar nu als gastdocent werkzaam. Van Twillert combineert altijd de liefde voor muziek met het lesgeven in workshops, master classes en wereldwijde concerten met in zijn tas zijn speciale muziekprogramma voor kinderen “Stars of the Future”.
